Located in Utrecht, the Netherlands, this beautiful 1076-square foot home belongs to Karlijn and Daniel. They live with their cat Harrie.
The bright home boasts plenty of light as well as attractive and healthy plants. One of the most remarkable elements in the home is the generous use of the color blue. You can spot the color in various fresh hues.
At times it is applied with a twist. A good example is the sizable striking stripe running from the living room to the dining room. But how did they think of that idea?
While the couple wanted to add color to the space, they didn’t want to cover the entire wall. So Daniel suggested that they add the blue stripe. The level change acts as a visual divider of the dining and lounging area.
The blue kitchen needed a facelift. But the couple didn’t have the budget for a complete makeover. Instead, they painted the tiles and faux wood frame white. They also added a new cooktop, wooden handles, and a new faucet. The result was a crisp and elegant space.
Daniel is inclined to a more sleek and modern look, while Karlijn prefers vintage and knickknacks. This fusion of different tastes has created a fresh and fascinating blend of vintage, DIY, and new items. And plenty of plants to crown the look.
Some of the interesting items in the home include the lounge chair near the window. It is from Karwei. And the attractive rose kilim is a secondhand find on Marktplaats.
Your eye can’t miss the pretty flamingo print. It was purchased at Junique. The TV unit and the blank floor lamp between the couch and the window are from IKEA. And the couch is secondhand.
Walking around the house, you can spot a variety of cool details, such as the gorgeous mini hummingbird mural. The wooden bench was bought at Tuincentrum Overvecht (a garden center).
The white wooden cabinet is a product of Dutch brand WOOOD. And the dining table is secondhand while the dining chairs are from Kwantum.
The home features a comfy entry with a stairway on the left, which allows access to the second floor. The pretty wreath decorating the door to the master bedroom is the work of Karlijn’s own hands. The bed is from Livengo and the wall behind the headboard displays a zesty shade of blue.
The clothes rack is not only functional but also decorative. It is from Marieke Rusticus Styling and the curtains are from HEMA.
The couple has turned the spare bedroom into a walk-in closet. The IKEA lace curtains hide the clutter on the shelves behind them.
