Step by Step Instructions for DIY Hemp Pendant Lamp

Using your permanent marker, draw a circle on the plastic ball. The circle marks a space on the lamp that will be clear of string.

You will use the empty circle in assembling the light fixture. It will allow you access when it comes to changing light bulbs. What if you are using a light fixture that has lamps shades?

In that case, ensure the circles are so big that the shades can easily pass through.

Use the trash bags to cover your work surface. Don’t forget to put on gloves. You don’t want to deal with a messy work area.

Squeeze a quart size amount of glue onto your fingers. Run the hemp string through the glue before wrapping it around the ball. The hemp string should stick quite effortlessly to the ball.

Glue and wrap. Keep repeating the process, albeit randomly to avoid crisscrossing patterns.  Try to make the lamp as densely wrapped as possible for the strongest end product.

Be sure not to wrap string over the circle area. Apply some extra glue to any areas that seem weak to enhance their strength.

Repeat the steps 1-5 to make several lamps. Give the glue about 48 hours to dry completely.

Deflate the ball using an inflating needle and then remove it from the lamp.

You need some basic electrical skills to accomplish this step. Follow the installation guidelines that come with your light fixture. You need to feed the wires through the lamp’s circle hole and up through the top while installing the light string. This ensures that the light bulb hangs down in the center of the sphere.

That’s it. You now have some beautiful pendant lamps without breaking a bank.
