Andrea Howe, the owner of the lifestyle blog Howe We Live, wanted a casual home loaded with Californian vibes, nature, and sunshine. In addition, the home was supposed to radiate a grown-up look.
However, she found a 2300-square foot home that featured a really dark interior and low ceilings. Fortunately, with the help of professionals, Andrea managed to transform the Seal Beach, California house to its current state – a stunning, light-filled home that reflects her personality.
But how did she make that happen?
She got rid of some walls and incorporated lots of natural materials. The home exemplifies a perfect blend of casual and sophisticated. It provides an excellent place where her family can both entertain and relax.
Let’s tour the home and behold some of its remarkable features.
The interior of the home is adorned largely with travel-inspired elements. In fact, many of the ideas for the home were borrowed from Andrea’s favorite hotel in Santa Barbara. She also lifted some décor ideas from Pinterest and various home design magazines.
The pianino is one of the most remarkable elements in the home. Everyone in the family is a pianino enthusiast. Away from the pianino, your eye can’t miss the stunning, newly-upholstered Pottery Barn bench.
The fantastically big kitchen island is Andrea’s favorite element in the home. In fact, she considers it her proudest DIY though she didn’t make it herself.
The kitchen stools are from CB2. The cool side table in the living room is from West Elm. And the wallpaper is a work of Caitlin Wilson.
The stunning wicker bench in the master bedroom is from Serena & Lily. The black and white tiles in the master bathroom are Andrea’s biggest indulgence in the home.
Andrea doesn’t shy away from expressing her dislike for white joints of the bathroom tiles. She wishes they were gray or another easy-to-maintain color.
